Central Victoria Floods Food Relief & Support

The team from Sikh Volunteers Australia has travelled to regional Victoria to help victims of devastating floodwaters inundating parts of the state.

The volunteers have been to Rochester, Seymour and Benalla and the nearby areas to help flood-affected Victorians.

“Our aim is to provide them with freshly cooked vegetarian meals so that they can put their energy and resources available to them to other beneficial things,” said Jaswinder Singh, a member of Sikh Volunteers Australia Team.

Mr Singh requested that any readers in flood-affected areas of Victoria who require help contact the team. It is hope the people they help feel that they’re not alone. “Obviously the people are not in very good condition when we approach them,” he said.

“They’ve gone through a lot of trauma and have experienced such a difficult time only a day or a half a day before we get there.

“Contact us in a collective way. When I say collective I mean that if, say, 10 or 15 families need support, then one of them should take information from everyone and send us a message,” he said. “That way, we know what help is required, and we can serve the communities better.”

Day 20 (4 Nov 2022) – Free meals service continues in Rochester for flood victims. Yesterday, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia visited the Rochester community and gave words of encouragement and appreciation to the SVA volunteers for the service they are providing to community.

Service for providing support in the flood effected areas continues. SVA Team is back at Rochester serving food again. Considering today’s bad weather we request everyone to let us know if there is an community in need of meals across state. SVA will try its level best to support any effected community.

The SVA Team is continuing serving in Rochester in Central Victoria flood area

SVA Team is heading to Rochester with freshly cooked vegetarian pasta for flood victims. SVA continues to serve community in Rochester flood affected arreas.

We acknowldge that this service is possible only because of dedicated and selfless Volunteers who are driving 7 hours return trips from Langwarrin to Rochester to provide meals.

The generosity, determination and kindness of such volunteers is beyond any measures and we sincerely thank all from the bottom of our heart.

Our team is serving communities in Rochester in the Central Victoria floods area. After serving at Rochester Hospital this morning, we are back at Rochester Presbyterian Church grounds. On separate occasions, Victorian State Goverment representatives, including the Premier of Victoria, The Hon. Daniel Andrews, Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp and Senator The Hon Sarah Henderson visited the Rochester communities.
